Potential Major Flooding for Eel River at Fernbridge
The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Flood Warning for the Eel River at Fernbride.
Forecast…The river is expected to rise above flood stage
this evening to a crest of 25.3 feet early tomorrow
afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late Saturday
morning.
– Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
– Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of
25.3 feet on 01/09/1995.

IMPACTS…At 25.0 feet, Severe flooding of the Eel River Delta
including areas northwest of Loleta and the western portion of
Cannibal Island Road. Numerous road closures in low-lying areas,
including Highway 211 to Ferndale. A Special Action Advisory is
issued to all owners of livestock in low-lying areas near the
river. Appropriate action should be taken to protect livestock.

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.
Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
