  • Centerville Road Reconstruction Project

PUBLIC NOTICE Coastal Commission Meeting – Centerville Beach Motorized Access The City of Ferndale encourages residents and community members to attend the upcoming California Coastal Commission meeting regarding the proposed Centerville Road Reconstruction Project. As a condition of approving the project, Coastal Commission staff are recommending that Humboldt County prohibit motorized vehicle access to Centerville Beach. Motorized access to this area has been a long-standing part of our local community and provides access for fishing, recreation, hunting, and other traditional uses of the beach. Community members who have concerns about the potential loss of motorized beach access are encouraged to attend the meeting and make their voices heard. California Coastal Commission Meeting Wednesday, September 9, 2026 Meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. Adorni Center – Eureka, California Public participation is important when decisions may affect long-standing access to our local coastline. We encourage residents to attend and provide their comments directly to the Coastal Commission. .

  • FREE TIRE RECYCLING PROGRAM, EUREKA TRANSFER STATION

Good news! The Free Tire Recycling Program is starting June 1, 2026 at the Eureka Transfer Station.  This means Humboldt County residents and businesses can drop off up to 9 car to light-truck sized tires for free, per day – 40 max per month.  Tires on rims are ok too.   If you need to bring more than 9 tires at once, you’ll need to get a waiver from the Humboldt County Local Enforcement Agency before we can accept your tire delivery.   These tire sources are ineligible for this program: Registered tire haulers Tire retailers/wholesalers Businesses that install tires as their main business Illegal dump cleanups   This ends September 30, 2027 or when grant funds run out, whichever comes first.   Questions or concerns?  Please call 707-268-8680 or email programs@hwma.net

  • 5TH STREET VISION ZERO POP UP SAFETY DEMONSTRATION

FERNDALE   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  5th Avenue Makeover: Help the city of Ferndale Test a Series of Traffic Calming Designs   Ferndale —July 6, 2026 Come share your thoughts as the City of Ferndale reimagines road safety along 5th Street with temporary traffic-calming demonstrations. In collaboration with the Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG), the city will install temporary speed humps, pavement markings, and striping along 5th Avenue between Arlington Street and A Street (see map). In addition, the city will chalk a temporary bike lane between Arlington and Shaw Avenue. The projects are intended to: Reduce vehicle speeds   Improve awareness  Enhance safety for everyone  These temporary installations allow the community to “test drive” safety features in real-time before the city commits to permanent infrastructure. Over the next eight weeks, community members are encouraged to walk, bike, drive, or roll through the demonstration and let the city know if these changes are successful and what else might be needed.  Due to the materials used, the bike lane pop-up will last about two weeks. Project Timeline   Installation will begin the week of July 13th, and the speed hump demonstration will remain in place for approximately eight (8) weeks while the bike lane will last about two (2) weeks. How to get involved:   Meet the team & share your voice: Project partners will be along 5th Street on Monday July 20th, from 4:00-7:00 PM to share additional information, discuss improvements, and listen to direct community feedback. Travel through the project area and take the survey: A public survey will be available along 5th Street and online at https://www.hcaog.net/programs-projects/vision-zero-action-plan. The city wants to hear from residents about how effective the demonstrations are at slowing down traffic and improving safety in this neighborhood. Ideas about other types of safety projects are encouraged as well!   About the Vision Zero Action Plan   This demonstration is part of the Humboldt County Vision Zero Action Plan, a federally funded Safe Streets for All (SS4A) planning grant. Once complete, the plan will outline engineering and policy-driven solutions to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries from our region’s most dangerous roads. The plan will be used by various jurisdictions in Humboldt County for securing state and federal road safety grants to implement much-needed infrastructure improvements.   For more information on the 5th Street demonstrations or the other three Vision Zero demonstration projects, located in Eureka, Arcata, and Fortuna, or the Humboldt County Vision Zero Action Plan, please visit https://www.hcaog.net/programs-projects/vision-zero-action-plan or contact the City of Ferndale, Kristene Hall, City Manager at longrangeplan@ci.ferndale.ca.us or 707-786-4224 .
