The City of Ferndale is currently updating its Housing Element, which is a required part of the City’s General Plan. California law requires all cities and counties to periodically update their Housing Element to plan for the housing needs of the community at all income levels. The update evaluates existing housing conditions, identifies opportunities for future housing, and establishes goals and policies to address the City’s housing needs while maintaining the unique character of Ferndale. The Housing Element must meet State requirements and is reviewed by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for compliance with State Housing Element Law. Public participation is an important part of this process, and residents are encouraged to review the information and provide input as the update moves forward.
