PET WASTE IN THE PARKS & WITHIN THE CITY
Please be aware the City has received multiple complaints regarding pet owners not cleaning up after there dogs (or other animals) in the parks and around the city.
Many of these complaints are from citizens that are not only trying to enjoy the Park and other settings in the beautiful city of Ferndale, but there has been numerous reports of animal waste in the little league field where our children and grandchildren go to play baseball. This is unfair to our local youth players and very unsanitary. The city provides bags in the parks for animal waste to be picked up properly.
City Ordinance 05-06 ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE §7.01 states “It is the duty of all animal owners, allowing their animals off their property to clean up after the animal. Owners allowing animals to defecate on property other than their own shall clean up after their animal. Owners in violation of this section shall be cited.” Also included is a leash law that requires dogs to be leashed. §5.01.2 Leashed: Dogs shall be kept on a leash not to exceed eight (8) feet in length in all areas of the incorporated City, not on the owner’s premises.
City Officers will now be enforcing and ticketing individuals that are in violation of the Ordinance. Fines range from $50 to $100.
You may also be stopped and asked to see your dog license. Dog licenses are required within city limits. Licenses can be obtained at Ferndale City Hall.
Please call City Hall at (707)786-4224 if you have any questions regarding the Animal Control Ordinance, or if you would like a copy.
