  • CITY COUNCIL MEETING 7/15/26

    The Ferndale City Council will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, beginning at 6:00pm at Ferndale City Hall, 834 Main Street, Ferndale. This is an in person meeting. Those wishing to comment of ask questions should plan on attending. Comments on agenda items may be submitted to the City Clerk by 12:00pm on the date of the scheduled meeting. Comments will be forwarded to the City Council prior to the meeting. Regular City Council meetings are recorded and a video of the meeting is available by request. Videos are downloaded to dropbox and a link to the video can be requested. A USB drive or Compact Disc is also available for a fee. Videos are generally available by the Monday following the meeting. The agenda and packet can be viewed and downloaded by clicking the link below. You may also contact City Hall and have the packet emailed.   • 5TH STREET VISION ZERO POP UP SAFETY DEMONSTRATION

    FERNDALE   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  5th Avenue Makeover: Help the city of Ferndale Test a Series of Traffic Calming Designs   Ferndale —July 6, 2026 Come share your thoughts as the City of Ferndale reimagines road safety along 5th Street with temporary traffic-calming demonstrations. In collaboration with the Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG), the city will install temporary speed humps, pavement markings, and striping along 5th Avenue between Arlington Street and A Street (see map). In addition, the city will chalk a temporary bike lane between Arlington and Shaw Avenue. The projects are intended to: Reduce vehicle speeds   Improve awareness  Enhance safety for everyone  These temporary installations allow the community to “test drive” safety features in real-time before the city commits to permanent infrastructure. Over the next eight weeks, community members are encouraged to walk, bike, drive, or roll through the demonstration and let the city know if these changes are successful and what else might be needed.  Due to the materials used, the bike lane pop-up will last about two weeks. Project Timeline   Installation will begin the week of July 13th, and the speed hump demonstration will remain in place for approximately eight (8) weeks while the bike lane will last about two (2) weeks. How to get involved:   Meet the team & share your voice: Project partners will be along 5th Street on Monday July 20th, from 4:00-7:00 PM to share additional information, discuss improvements, and listen to direct community feedback. Travel through the project area and take the survey: A public survey will be available along 5th Street and online at https://www.hcaog.net/programs-projects/vision-zero-action-plan. The city wants to hear from residents about how effective the demonstrations are at slowing down traffic and improving safety in this neighborhood. Ideas about other types of safety projects are encouraged as well!   About the Vision Zero Action Plan   This demonstration is part of the Humboldt County Vision Zero Action Plan, a federally funded Safe Streets for All (SS4A) planning grant. Once complete, the plan will outline engineering and policy-driven solutions to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries from our region’s most dangerous roads.   • HIGHWAY 211 DELAYS SCHEDULED THRU JULY 17TH

    ROUTE 211 DELAYS BETWEEN U.S. 101 AND FERNDALE: One-way traffic control will continue today, June 23rd and Wednesday June 24th from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a paving and surfacing project from Van Ness Avenue to Singley Road. Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 20 minutes. Additional one-way controlled traffic will resume Monday June 29th – Wednesday July 1st with a break for the holiday weekend and resume Monday July 6th – Friday July 10th. Additional intermittent closures for striping will take place thru July 17th. Please remember to drive slow in construction areas and allow for extra travel time during these time periods.

  • NIGHTTIME FERNBRIDGE DELAYS APRIL 30-MAY 1

    Heads up, Ferndale folks and Fernbridge users. Travelers using Fernbridge along Route 211 in Humboldt County should plan for nighttime delays later this week. From 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30, to 6 a.m. Friday, May 1, expect 15-minute delays while crews install changeable message sign structures as part of the seismic gates project.

  • FERNDALE ACCESS PROJCT MEETING 3/26/2026

    Caltrans District 1 will host a public scoping meeting for the proposed Ferndale Access Project on Thursday, March 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Ferndale City Hall, 834 Main St. The meeting will give community members a chance to learn about early project concepts and provide input as environmental studies begin. The project is exploring long-term options to maintain reliable access to the City of Ferndale, including a structurally resilient bridge that meets modern design standards and helps reduce the risk of damage from future seismic events. Fernbridge, built in 1911, is a historic landmark spanning the Eel River and serves as a vital connection between Ferndale, U.S. 101, and communities across the North Coast. Caltrans staff will be available at the meeting to answer questions and discuss the environmental review process. Comments may also be submitted online, by email, or by mail through April 17.
