Ferndale, California, is a quaint Victorian village on the north coast of California, in Humboldt County. Settled in the 1850s, its roots were in the dairy industry, which remains an important aspect of its current economy.

Ferndale’s elevation is 50 feet, and it has a population of about 1372 people (2010 census), living within one square mile of city limits. Due to its coastal proximity (Centerville beach is only 5 miles out of town), the weather is mild all year long.

In 1893 Ferndale was granted incorporation as a “General Law” city, that is, the city was not granted a separate charter, but falls under the “General Law” of the California statute.

We have a Council-Manager form of government. This city council sets policy while the City Manager runs the day-to-day business of the City. The mayor is elected separately from the City Council, and has appointive powers, subject to the approval of the council.

City Hall is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-4:00pm. We are located at 834 Main Street, Ferndale CA, 95536 and our mailing address is PO Box 1095, Ferndale CA, 95536. We can be reached at (707)786-4224 and our fax is (707)786-9314.
