City of Ferndale
Ferndale, California, elevation 50 feet, has a population of about 1372 people (2010 census), living within one square mile of city limits.
In 1893 Ferndale was granted incorporation as a "General Law" city, that is, the city was not granted a separate charter, but falls under the "General Law" of the California statute.
We have a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council sets policy while the City Manager runs the day-to-day business of the City. The mayor is elected separately from the City Council, and has appointive powers, subject to the approval of council.
